Root Canal Therapy

Root canal treatment means removing damaged or dead pulp inside the tooth and filling the space with root filling material. The remaining tooth can than be repaired. Root canal treatment is needed when decay has reached the nerve chamber or in some cases when a tooth has broken or suffered trauma. At the core of each tooth is the pulp. The pulp contains living cells, nerves and blood supply and extends into the root through the root canal. Front teeth normally have one root, whilst back teeth can have two, three or four roots.

What are the benefits?
•  Damage or injury to the pulp chamber can cause toothache.
•  In a tooth with a dead pulp there is a possibility of infection and abcess
    formation.
•  Without root canal treatment, a tooth with a dead pulp would have to be
    extracted.
