Gum Disease

Gum disease affects the gums and bone supporting your teeth. It begins with a build up of plaque on your teeth. Plaque is made up of bacteria. The easiest sign of disease is bleeding of the gums and this is called gingivitis. If left unchecked, the gums may start to become detached from the tooth forming ‘pockets’ in which plaque can build up. Deep cleaning (Root Surface Debridement) is a way of helping to stop gum disease. It involves ‘deep’ scaling to clean parts of teeth below the gumline.
